I researched amazon for 5.25" bay sized 3.5" HDD hot swap units and decided that whilst this one is not the cheapest it did look neatest and more sturdy. The vent at the front is good, allowing the desktop/tower's own fans to pull air over the drive to keep it cool (So no extra fans or noise). I've had HDD's in those desktop plug in USB3.0/2.0 type adapters, they're fine but the disks do get quite hot after extended use during a backup.

The HDD slides into the unit along the bottom of the rack with ease. Inserting and remove a disk requires no force and opening the front fully gently ejects the disk from the rear connectors - feels quality. I read a comment elsewhere that the unit was longer than a CD, well mine is actually shorter than my Phillips 885 R/W DVD by 1cm, so the cable plugs don't protrude beyond the CD, front to back it is about 158mm.

Well packaged and supplied with 8-mounting screws (4 is enough for most of us, but fitted all 8 so as not to lose them) it was installed into the min-tower unit and operating within 5-minutes. The instructions (Which you won't need if you've ever fitted a CD/DVD or similar in the past) are detailed with text and diagrams and represent the best I've ever seen for this type of PC product. But they do contain that unusual translation from Chinese to English that we've all become used to, and bring a smile to the face, but are perfectly understandable (Eg. VII Operation step (4) = "Note: before the 1105ss cable connects with the computer mother board, make sure there is no any dopant with the plug, to avoid electrical circuit." - I have no idea what "dopant" is or should be, they've invented a new word I think.

There is hex key type lock and not keys we see on other units. To be fair, who locks them anyway as you stand the chance of losing the keys (Which are not that secure anyway). So the hex key supplied, is actually key shaped, like a radiator key and not just an L-shaped allen key, perfectly good.

So in summary, does what you expect at a good price, feels and looks a quality unit - Highly recommend.

Review Update:
I contacted Orico after digging deep to find a way of contacting them via Amazon.

Orico were extremely helpful and sent me a replacement caddy, which I have replaced and is in usage.

The replacement works normally and there are no issues of with the ejection mechanism as long as you have a full height 3.5" HDD, but I cant give this more than 3 stars still...

I would like to add to those reading, that if you have any 3.5" HDD that is not full height, you may find yourselves with an HDD you will need to put your fingers in and pull out somehow, this happened to me on some older 3,5" HDD of 200 to 500GB which were not full height and therefore the eject arm position is unable to affect the ejection of said HDD.

This would be cured easily by making the tip of the eject arm in L shape at the end, so that the L facing down would reach these lower Heigh 3.5" HDD's just fine.

I maybe able to rig something myself as an after market modification to add an L shaped ejector arm tip to be able to reach the lower HDD without affecting normal operation of this device.

I attach a picture of a lower 3.5" HDD and full height HDD side by side so you know by how little this misses 2 more stars.

Enclosure installs easily and is it seems like a solid built but that's is only skin deep, the lid/hinges mechanism on closing offers resistance and is flimsy, needs quite a bit of pressure to close and is the opposite of smooth like its grinding and the hinges feel loose even on opening.. Opening though is simple and easy and it works better. the lid feels loose somehow.

The power button is soft/smooth operation, but sits flush with surface and when pushing it you need small child fingers almost as it goes inwards below surface but its works. The button operation is smooth.

As such I cant rate this enclosure higher than 3 star and only gets that because the body of enclosure is good quality and solid build. The rest is just so so.

Bought one of these for my dell 760 tower, had a bit of an issue with swapping drives over, my pc only seams to recognize the hard drive installed
when it is inserted while the PC is off.

While running the PC if i remove the drive that is installed my PC still shows it as being plugged in and if i put a different drive in to it my pc wont recognize it and the Hard drive just makes a clicking noise until i reboot.

Tried a few different connections internal sata 2 port, external e-sata port but still does the same thing, the only way i could get it to work as should was with a sata to USB converter and running the cable out of the back of the case and using one of the rear USB ports, it works fine and as should with this method.

I know i have an old girl for a pc but it does what i need and I am putting the problem more towards my PC but if anyone does know a solution to make it work with an internal sata 2 port i would appreciate the help, i am considering a sata 3 pci card just to help with transfer speed as im a bit limited to 35 to 80 mb speeds at the moment which isn't great but not to bad either, the only problem is I'm not sure if i will end up with the same problem as using the internal sata ports when swopping drives over.

It fits ok, had no problem installing it.
Sata connection is bit tight, which is probably good thing.
Disk fits in it without any problems and most important it has its own dual color diode, without need plugging it in to MB.

Im happy and will buy more of these.
Wish it would be here for sale earlier before i bought different one for the same price and the diode had external plug.

Very happy with the quality, and it helps to keep the HDD cool with the need for a fan.

I'd only mark it down because the LED is far too big and bright - I've put a piece of masking tape over it.

The door broke after 1 day of use, it has been unlocked 3 times since installation. if you are looking for a genuinely secure device. this is not for you. its purely decorative.

This has been a good product, but note these things:
- The version that I received needed SATA power, not an IDE power connection
- It is long. Make sure that the back of your spare bay is not occluded by cable looms or motherboard sockets
- Switch its SATA socket to 'hot plug' in your BIOS.
- Intel Rapid Storage Technology or equivalent is a good idea, even if you don't use it for a RAID array

Love it. Very easy for swapping HDD's in and out via the front panel. Door is a little flimsy but it's good!

Easy. Thats the word to describe this product.

It just works and seems very well built for the price. Would happily recommend it to anyone.

Very smooth operation, no force needed. Doesn't feel like i'm breaking it when HDDs are going in or out. No issues whatsoever.
