A while ago this year, I was browsing on Amazon and found this cd for just £3, and took a closer look at it. I knew Blondie had released "The Essential Collection" in 1993 on EMI Gold, which was a 14-track compilation, but this "Essential" compilation has - wait for it - 21 tracks and is absolutely brilliant.Opening with "Atomic" this collection also has 2 extra mixes of the tune, which aren't bad at all. All of the big hits are here, and if you're a long-time fan or follower of the group, it's definitely worth investing in as this CD will have you hitting the repeat button on your car stereo. Fabulous!

One of several slightly frustrating compilations that look to celebrate this quintessentially New York group, who have blended new wave rock with surf music, hip hop, Motown, glam and bubblegum pop, to varying degrees of success. This cheap, dowdy-looking effort - that rebrands EMI's 1998 set Atomic: The Very Best Of - does boast most of this ongoing group's biggest and best hits of the 1970s and 1980s in its unchronological 21 song running order, including: 'Denis'; 'Hanging on the Telephone'; 'Heart of Glass'; 'Rapture', and 'The Tide Is High'. However, that positive impression is slightly spoilt by the mystifying decision to include 3 separate versions of 'Atomic' here, especially so when 2 are faddish dance remixes from the 1990s that haven't aged as well as the thumping 1979 original. As does the compilers' baffling decision to bracket the turgid 'War Child' - from their lamentable 1982 album The Hunter - as an 'essential' track.

A warning to fans. This set is merely the 1998 collection 'Atomic - The Very Best Of' reissued. The exact same track listing in new artwork. A lazy cash-in attempt and typical of the lack of originality and care at EMI.
Pointless, with the only saving grace being the superb music.

Great value for an album with such a fantastic selection of great Blondie hits. Really takes me back to my youth and even a couple of great dance versions of Atomic.
