You may know Sophie Neville from the wonderful Swallows and Amazons film of 1974 - or you may not know her at all. It really doesn't matter, as this is such a wonderful read. Based on diaries kept when she was very ill, this is such an honest account of what it is to be human. I think it was that honesty that gripped me and also enchanted me at the same time. The stories of all the happenings in that time - including a wonderful array of triumphs and disasters involving her marvellous family and friends, are entwined with all the deepest spiritual questions that we all have - whether we voice them or not. I should warn you, you will from time to time be suddenly seized with helpless hysterical laughter which will render you unable to communicate or progress to the next page! Buy it, read it, buy it for others - you won't regret it.
