Started off as a great book but then it goes on to describe too many cultural practices and man made religious rituals which have seeped into Sikhi. I thought the book would centre more around core Sikh principles or stories around how Sikhi originated. However the second half focuses on about topics such as the outdated patriarchal structure of Punjabi households and other bigoted/judgemental/superstitious attitudes

This little book provides a succinct and well-written introduction to Sikhism. It covers history, teachings, practices and organisation of Sikhs and their religion in a style suitable for both complete novices and those who are familiar with the basics. I would recommend it to anyone beginning to study this area whether at school or university, for general interest or to learn more about their own background. Written by a talented lecturer and well respected member of the Sikh community in Britain this is definitely worth buying.

Great insight into what you need to know about Sikhism. It is easy to read and follow and you can dip into it easily. Pocket sized means that you can easily take it with you. Really recommend this read if you just want to gain a good understanding of how Sikhism was founded and the prinicples upon which it operates.

It is very brief and concise. Enough to know about the basics or rather get an idea of the other religion.
