This band a re magic I had the good fortune of seeing them live last year in Cardigan Castle, with an audience before the gig with one of the members of the band who through a French translator told the story of how they have come together, an amazing introduction to them. Must see or hear the CD, it is brilliant. I need to speak to Amazon about the purchase of these CD's through my account as I paid and received more than I needed because of not being able to delete out of date debit cards their system holds and keeps defaulting to the old card? Not a happy customer on the purchasing side with Amazon!
The extraordinary Tinariwen, a Tuareg group from the northern Sahara, have now become a global phenomenon. Their fifth album, 'Tassili', was recorded largely unplugged in Djanet in the south-eastern Algerian desert and contains much soulful, stirring and evocative music. However, Tinariwen's brilliant, elemental and poetic desert blues is not enhanced by the addition of western 'guest' artists such as guitarist Nels Cline and vocals from New York band 'TV on the Radio' which is why 'Tassili' just falls short of the highest rating.
