Wow! can't believe i would be the first person to write a customer review of this cd. Thought there would be loads! I had never heard of Dustin O'halloran until i fell in love with the music from the Audi ad and found out it was written and performed by him. On the strength of this i bought the cd. Any lover of classical piano will love this cd. My favourite tracks are 1 and three. His style is very hanting and relaxing. You can hear influences of Debussy and Satie in his music. Lovely stuff! Buy it!
I received this cd as a present and had no idea what it was. Since that I have not been listening to anything else. I am immensely grateful to the person who gave it to me. It is so incredibly unknown, (well 3 reviews only!!!) and cant find it at all in France...(was trying to buy more of this composer over there). It is so beautiful, sad, peaceful, haunting, dreamy and evocative...To any lovers of piano music this will be a real find. Apparently it was also used in the film 'Marie-Antoinette' by Coppolla. But it is a music that becomes your very own very quickly. Caution : if a little sad it might affect your mood for the worse... As all truly beautiful works of art, it flows with utter grace and simplicity, yet reaches very deep...Thank you, thank you, thank you for that gift !
Dustin O'Halloran has to be one of my favourite composers/performers of contemporary classical piano music after I discovered him just over a year ago when I did a Google to find out who had composed the music for the ITV trailer "The Brighter Side" and O'Halloran's name came up, and I subsequently went on to his own website and heard some MP3 samples of his piano music.
Dustin's music is reflective, often hypnotic, melancholic and hauntingly beautiful. In style, he's probably closest to the American composer and pianist Craig Urquhart; both compose and perform classically inspired piano music that tends towards the quiet, reflective side of the musical spectrum.
Much of Dustin's music has the Impressionistic quality of, say, Debussy or Satie, coupled with the minimalism of composers such as Ludovico Einaudi; fans of Einaudi's more reflective side (e.g. "Le Onde" and "Ombre" from the "Le Onde" album) will almost certainly love O'Halloran's music too.
There's a chance that you may already be familiar with some of the music on this album, as I'm pretty certain I've heard excerpts played as background music in TV documentaries recently.
I'm surprised at how many times I've already played this album; there's a timeless, evocative quality to it that's made it my first choice when I want to play something calming and restful but with a real depth of emotion to it.
It is just quite simply one of the most beautiful melancholy series of piano tunes that I have ever heard. Ethereal, stunning, emotional, dripping in water like Poseidon himself rising out of the sea, these tunes will transport you to somewhere stunning. Yes, OK dont listen to them too much if you're feeling a bit low as you might need to flip open a bottle of whisky, but my goodness, this CD enhances my life. Its also, so far, the only music that I can listen to whilst I work which doesnt distract me, but actually brings on the creative muse. I love love love it. Buy it now and then buy one for your friends!
As often when i'me on your site i look to see if any new CD's from artists which i follow have released something new. As in the case of Ludovico Einaudi. Ludovico technique is diffinitly not Ludovico Einaudi! I bought the CD, "the pig in the sack" as they say in Sweden; without listeninging beforehand. This was a big mistake! A mistake i have made with you on too many earlier occasions. If there was a way to listen to CD's Before hand then i wouldn't continually be making this mistake and would be buying more CD's from you. As it is i'me out on other sites to listen beforehand, unfortunatly they often times don't have the CD'd imé interested in. Call it what you will but i call it bad costomer service. Sincerly, John Biddle
