At first I must admit I thought this was going to be an Adrian Mole rip off with a boy who`s too intelligent for his own good and a girlfriend who would normally be out of his league but very quickly I saw that the film dealt with harsher realities such as bullying, depression, illness and the break up of your parents and that was the point of the film, that life and especially coming of age was not a barrel of laughs and that we do make the wrong decisions and say the wrong things and so I am quite happy to say that my first impression was wrong and that this was a good and entertaining film.

Beautiful cinematography and unique style of portraying a somewhat predictable story.
Illustrates the confusion and awkwardness of teenage relationships and teen life in general, focusing on family, love, and school.
Excellent soundtrack from Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, really sets the scene of the charming story of Oliver Tate, with an additional feel-good factor of the soft tones throughout the film.
Filled with thought provoking metaphors about life by really making you stop and think, and giving you a new perspective of the world through the guidance of Oliver's mind.

A sloow movie, black humour with lots of atmosphere. That's the sort of thing that would be right up my street. But it's more black than humour. And slow. Almost French but somehow French atmosphere works better. This atmosphere is 1980's Wales.

So indie it hurts but also a brilliant, easy-going and creative film. Definitely recommend watching it at least once.

Amazing movie about awkwardness and teenage life. This should be BAFTA material and the soundtrack is only a plus.

This film can't help but bring a smile to your face. The original soundtrack by Alex Turner is fantastic.

I really enjoyed the movie: beautiful and colourful scenes, black humor, interesting characters and conversations - I can't really describe it but the movie has something special.
