This is the best version yet of the Kinks' debut album. It contains both the mono and stereo versions of the album, as well as contemporary singles, outtakes and other material. The sound quality, considering the recordings are 47 years old, is superb, crisp and clean. Some people may find the stereo mix a bit gimmicky, with some strange panning of the vocals on some of the numbers. In which case the beautifully mastered mono version is just for you. If you are a Kinks completist and want the best possible sound quality, then these deluxe editions are just the ticket.

This represents the birth of the Greatest English Rock Band Ever! That is not to take away from the Rolling Stones the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World, but it is the Englishness of Ray Davies' song writing that sets them apart and which I love, the twist here is that I am a proud Scott and this is a mark of Ray Davies' genius as a song writer. On this album the kinks are still finding their voice, there is plenty of obvious influences of the rhythm and blues acts that inspired them here but if you don't have this album there is one song that it is worth getting it for: You Really Got Me. In many ways this is the seed from which Punk Rock grew; Dave Davies also invented the Fuzz Guitar by making holes in the speaker of his pre-amp creating a sound that would have a profound influence on the development of rock music.

What Ray Davies has done with these Deluxe Edition remasters is to go back to the original master tapes, remembering that tapes of that era will be in a delicates state, and has brought them back to life. This is a significant issue because if this is not done with these old tapes then the risk is that all we have left are recordings taken from second generation mixes; once you lose the original source it is lost forever. Don't get me wrong the previous versions of the Kinks early work were very good but this is the icing on the cake, the sound quality is excellent. If you are undecided about whether to buy this or the 2008 version - Kinks- then my advice it that if you are on a tight budget then the 2008 version is very good but if you can stretch a few extra pounds then go for the Deluxe Edition, a real treat for Kinks fans.

Not the best Kinks album by a long shot. Contains the obvious classics You Really Got Me and Stop Your Sobbing and some average fillers and the Deluxe Edition add All Day And All Of The Night, EP tracks, radio versions and both stereo and mono versions of the album. Worth it for the extra tracks and the ecxellent repackaging and booklet with notes by The Kinks themselves and pictures, single covers and posters from the era.

Terrific package. This two disc Deluxe Edition expands on the original début with a generous amount of bonus material in the form of A sides, B sides, Stereo and mono versions of the original album, live interview snippets and more. Much has been said of the patchy nature of the recordings themselves, and certainly the tracks Bald Headed Woman, and Driving on Bald mountain must rank among the worst things they ever committed to tape. But as an document of their explosive talent and raw energy it's certainly essential listening. This reissue series, covering their PYE studio output as far as the albums Lola and Percy, are exemplary. Great liner notes and photos, a wealth of material and a nice slipcase package make this the definitive version and a fitting tribute to a great British band.

Didn't have the first kinks album yet (do own the next 6) and with this price it's a better deal then the single disc for me because I just love the packaging of these special editions and the informative booklet. The music isn't half bad either

Decent vinyl pressing - no need to review the music, if you don't know it is brilliant Kinks then where have you been?
