If you know Korngold's Die Tote Stadt you are likely to believe he only wrote one song, as the first track on this disc is definitely a recycling of a well known Korngold melody. However as the disc demonstrates this is not always the case. What will be apparent is that the soprano is asked to sing in her upper register much more and continuously than is usual for most other song writers whether of his or other generations. Britta Stallmeister sings these high lying songs superbly and the English language ones (to Shakespearean texts) are both likely to be familiar and are particularly lovely!
The Baritones challenges are not perhaps so severe but the songs are equally delightful and well sung.
Fantastic accompaniment, I look forward to the next edition in the series, meanwhile this is well worth acquiring and getting to know.
