Having loved the story since I was a chid, I watched most of this series when it first aired, how many years ago? OMG! I was most certainly not disappointed. Was the third season not shown in UK? I don't remember any of the descriptions of the episodes. I bought the full boxed set last week so not finished watching yet, but as soon as I saw it was due out my name was first on the list! The visual style is very of its time, a little grainy, but that just seemed to enhance the mood for me. It has everything that a Totally Incurable Romantic can possibly want, and plenty for the rest of you. One tiny teeny little complaint, which I still often have with most American series is that the actors who are supposed to be from other countries, such as Ireland, sound so false. Oh and can you believe we women once wore shoulder pads like that! I don't much care what else Ron Perlman has been in since, he will always be Vincent to me. I so loved his voice reciting Shakespeare, Wordsworth, and my favourite, Rilke. Each time I have watched it, I have slept like a baby with the most wonderful dreams. Why, oh why, are there no series to match that today? No gratuitous sex, and any violence is not full on blood and gore all over the screen. Perlemans rendering of the pain, despair, Love, and pent up desire within the relationshuip is to be applauded. I feel every emotion. I especially love the small looks he and Katherine exchange, tiny, insignificant, but filled with such powerful emotion. Oh, I'm going to cry!!! I don't really know if I want to watch the final series, It will break my heart I know. Maybe I will just keep watching the first two!! Buy it now if you are a Romantic. But, if you are a cynic, then Heaven help you for never knowing these feelings! BUY BUY BUY!!!

What a joy to be able to watch this series again. I'd forgotten the stories but remembered the feeling they instilled back when they were shown on television. Season 1 and Season 3 get 5 stars from me, with Season 2 being the weakest - incredibly episodic and depressing storylines. But Season 3 is brilliant - and not because Beauty (ie Catherine Chandler/Linda Hamilton) is no longer there, but because the story arc finding her killer is so well done and gives purpose to that season. Pity they hadn't realised that potential for the second season. Definitely one to keep and watch again and again. Overall, 4.5 stars.

Received today.
I was very disappointed because:
1) The video quality is very poor !
2)On the sixth disc of the second season there is supposed to be an image gallery but IS NOT THERE !
3) On the sixth disc of the third season in the 'original love letters' section there are only 4 of them instead of all 8 !!
And I really hate the newly reconstructed love letters because there is another man's voice reading them in Vincent's !!!
NOT HAPPY AT ALL !!!!

Have nearly finished the second season and have really enjoyed watching it. It is easy watching, but not sugar coated and is often quite realistic. I can't remember this when it originally came out as I was too young and was not sure what to expect. I vaguely remember my mum or somebody telling me how good it was and based my purchase on the reviews. It has certainly been worth the money, especially as there never seems much on the t.v.
