Don't say back to form...

...But it's what everyone will be thinking!
Funeral return to past strength but not necessarily their past selves on this album. Far far more punchy than 'Humanity' and more credible coming from them than 'Tales' (the two last albums not counting the greatest hits) Armageddon is a great album. The album flows really well, includes the bands signature vocal tones, smooth-agressive and is full of strong instrumentation from the guitar, bass and drums...
You may (if a more dedicated fan) compare this to the bands breakthrough record 'Casually dressed..' which is possible considering the return of drummer Ryan's screams and Kris's guitar lines which really come through here. However this is not completely fair as it is clear the band have learned from the 3 albums since then and present a very coherent album which nevertheless manages to shift in style significantly throughout.
Gripes? I still feel they can do better than this actually. But only time will tell if they manage that. The balance of melody and post-hardcore punk sounds works really well and it goes some way to removing the emptiness of 'Tales' and builds strongly on the new-found direction on 'Humanity'.
If you get to see them live on this tour get set to be blown away!
