Its such a pleasure to hear this no gimmicks lovely music. Its good on first listen and gets better with repeats. Marry's vocals are (as expected) clear and expressive and there are additional vocal contributions from other folk luminaries (Kathryn Williams, Eliza Carthy, James Yorkston). Instrumentation (Oliver on guitar supported, again, by some well-known folkies) is tasteful, well arranged & beautifully recorded. The songs are cliche free and have a good range of moods/subjects/tempos - so there's no fatigue for the listener. The pack even has lyrics and performer details in highly legible black on white - always a bonus.
This is a magic wonderful album. The performances on every track are sensitive, passionate and accomplished. It stays recognisably in the folk tradition while still sounding individual and modern. All the lyrics are worth reading as well as listening to. The continuity of the Waterson family solid achievements is absolutely assured.
