How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsMy life has been changed!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 August 2012
I never did very well at school. I wanted to learn and it felt like all the words I needed were right there in my head, but I just couldn't get them onto the paper in front of me. If I really pushed myself, I could sometimes manage to draw pretty flowers in the margins but this didn't please Sir and I was soon in all the bottom sets. What really confused me is that I had no problems in cookery or textiles. At the time I didn't understand why I could grip and use a wooden spoon or sewing needle but couldn't properly hold my black-coloured pen for more than 45 seconds without dropping it on the floor and weeping.

Things were a bit better when I left school to go and work sweeping up hair at the local salon - yet again, the broom seemed to just fit into my grip as if it was meant to be there - and I saved up to buy a pink laptop. I still had trouble writing for a long time because, although the case was pink, the keys weren't designed for female eyes which, as we all know, struggle to discern between shades of black and grey. I could write for about 4 minutes at a time, though, and that's how I found out about these wonderful pens for girls like me.

As soon as they arrived, I was soothed by the pink packaging - I'd been feeling stressed after driving back from work because my hands just won't stay on the black, leather-effect steering wheel in my cute mini. Anyway, I quickly found a piece of notepaper with pictures of kittens round the edges and had a go at writing my name. It was amazing! The pen just stayed in place between my fingers, just like it always had for the boys in my class at school. Well, in no time I'd filled a whole notepad and had to go and get another one!

Now I've gone back to night school and hope to realise my ambition of enrolling on a childcare course next year. I'm also halfway through writing an erotic novel set in Victorian times - but with vampires!

My only criticism of these wonderful pens is that I get a bit bored with all 12 looking the same. I get around this my customising each pack. At the moment, the pen I have in use is covered in stripes of glitter and I glued a pink pompom and one of those diamanté charms you get on mobile phones (I couldn't fit any more on my phone) onto the top. I think BIC should start adding pens like this to their range because some women find it difficult to hold tubes of superglue properly - I asked the 6 year old boy who lives next door to help me.

Normally I only use pens designed and created for real men, in colours appropriate to such instruments of masculinity - black like my chest hair or blue like the steely glint of my eyes, or the metallic paintwork of my convertible Mustang sportscar. Imagine then the situation I found myself in when, upon taking delivery of another shipment of motorbike parts and footballs, I reached for and grasped not my normal BIC pen, but a `BIC for Her Amber Medium Ballpoint Pen' (evidently ordered by my well-meaning, but ill-informed girlfriend whilst my back was turned). I knew something was wrong when I had to physically restrain my hands, gnarled and worn from a lifetime of rock-climbing and shark wrestling, from crushing the fragile implement like a Faberge egg. Things only went downhill from there.

Normally my hand writing is defined and strong, as if chiselled in granite by the Greek gods themselves, however upon signing my name I noticed that my signature was uncharacteristically meandering and looping. More worryingly the dots above the I's manifested themselves as hearts, and I found myself finishing off the signature with a smiley face and kisses. Obviously I had no choice but to challenge the delivery man to a gun fight on the rim of an erupting volcano in order to reassert my dominance. Had I not won this honourable duel this particular mistake might have resulted in a situation that no amount of expensive single malt whiskey and Cuban cigars could banish. I leave this review here as a warning to all men about the dangers of using this particular device, and suffice-it-to-say will return to signing my name with a nail gun as normal.

I have spent all of my female life so far accidentally using men pens. I didn’t realise how much this has been holding me back: mind, body and soul. Since using these pens I have become a renowned writer and researcher of post-feminist ergonomics. And I have to give it to the Bic Corporation, male run thank God, they changed my life profoundly. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

These pens are perfect for the following things:

* Writing I Love You notes to put in the packed lunches that I dutifully make for my husband each morning.
* Preparing the shopping list and writing down other menial tasks that I have to complete each day.
* Delicately writing a little heart over my letter i's instead of a dot - how delightful!
* Writing complaint letters to companies who pointlessly gender inanimate objects - just kidding! I'd have to get my husband to do that. I'm just a woman, after all!

I'm a very manly man, so imagine my shock to discover I was pregnant after using this pen!

Thanks Bic, this is really going to cost me.

I used to be a strapping 6ft 3in male. I used one of these pens to write a note to remind me to fight someone later that evening after repairing my car that I’d driven to a forest for the purposes of lumber jacking.
All those notions passed away as I used this pen. Suddenly I “felt” more, I understood more. I wanted to call all my friends and just....talk, to ask them how they felt, if they were okay?

Later that Day, after listening to Shania Twain’s “that don’t impress me much” for the 48th time I had my first period. I subsequently ate a whole cake, screamed at a pigeon for being too aggressive, cut the sleeves off all of my own suits and painted the ends of my fingernails white. As I then sat in a bath that was more bath bomb than water designing my perfect wedding dress surrounded by enough candles to commemorate the battle of Stalingrad I decided that I just wanted cats now.

That was two days ago, I am now 67 and smell of cat piss, warm scones and sherry. My house is somehow on the top of a hill and all my teeth have fallen out.

I’m not sure I regret anything, I just know that I love Julie Walters.

Pens also leaked a bit.

Ug! I tried using this Bic for her pen, but my clublike mandibles pawed uselessly at the sumptuous curves of the device. It felt like the first time I put on, accidentally I might add, a pair of women's jeans and fumbled with the baffling connection mechanism, beads of sweat coalescing on my brow as I felt the waves judgement fold over me from the incredulous onlookers; hear the muffled tuts and whispers of the baffled crowd, 'they know! They know!' an accusatory voice shrieked in my ear as visible shakes took hold of me, my chunky hands of masculine might dived for the safety of the pockets, then like a gunshot the sudden horror of my tribulations engulfed me and a despair wracked me to a level of overwhelming dismay. There were no pockets! Rocked to my core I unleashed a powerful roar and fled in chaos as the offending articles wriggled free of my manly legs compounding my wild escape with elements of slapstick. No, I will never touch a product designed for those of a feminine persuasion as long as I shall live

5.0 out of 5 stars How do these letters work again?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 March 2018
I’m so glad my husband bought me these! Those other man pens were just too complicated for my delicate lady hands. My hubby also kindly wrote this post out on paper for me with a masculine man pen, so all I need to do is copy it onto here using the letter boardy thing. Being a lady is so confusing, I mean how am I meant to write words on paper if I don’t have my specially special lady pen here? I can’t use a man pen!! Brenda told me her hairdresser’s mother in law’s cat’s vet’s sister used a man pen once and now she’s one of those lesbertarians. My hubbster would be so upset if I did that, I mean who would cook and clean for him?! Ladies, please buy these! Don’t try the scary man pens, it’s just not worth it.

Words fail me. Check out a brilliant video on YouTube: 'Bic pens for women', it's excellent, very funny.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's CHANGED MY LIFE!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 February 2018
This pen has totally changed my life! Why wasn't it invented YEARS ago?

Growing up as a woman with a female brain, I'll admit I always struggled through school with those hefty big man-pens. Sometimes I had to sleep through Double Maths because the sheer effort of writing in my English class before left me mentally and physically drained. I tried throwing myself into netball in my PE classes, in the hope of building up my hand muscles, but I hated netball and could only ever catch the ball with my face. It seemed I was forever doomed to writing in only small, controlled bursts, with long rest periods and tea and biscuits afterwards.

But now - NOW! - I and my fellow sisters have been emancipated! I knew it was revolutionary when I saw its beautiful pink colour. Don't want to get all science-y on you (because we all know that kind of thing is rather dangerous for ladies) but some person somewhere has proved that the colour pink has proved to be energising for the female brain. I mean, look at Barbie - she can ride a MOPED now! But the clincher for me was when I read the tagline - "fits in your handbag!" Oh, thank god! Those man-pens were like lugging a bloody tank around. And I'm delighted to report - the Bic for Her really DOES fit in my handbag! Hurray - now I can leave my shopping cart at home if I'm going out and ever want to write something on the go!

Now, I don't want to seem ungrateful (because I DO deeply appreciate all the research, engineering and other complicated things that must have gone into creating this pen,) but... is there going to be a Keyboard for Her coming out as well? Because it's taken me over seventeen minutes to type this out with my lady-fingers, and I can't let myself get too tired because I still have to cook my husbands dinner.
