Disappointing doesn't begin to describe it...
on 2 February 2014
Like several others I felt that to be endorsed by Lee Child, the quality of these short stories should be good if not excellent. What a mistake to make! Some were not bad, a few were quite good, but I gave up after "the Gato Conundrum" which I just found annoying (what a load of rubbish!), and in which I couldn't help giving a derisory snort when the author had his character throw down "a 1,000 euro note"... The highest denomination in euro banknotes is 500, perhaps John Lescroart was lazy enough to translate 'francs' into 'euros' without bothering with even the most cursory of checks. I was stunned to find his impressive credentials at the end of the book - the 'quality' of the story had convinced me it was a poor first attempt of an aspiring amateur! Won't be misled like that again.
