Finally, the definitive account of Friedemann Bach's Organ Works! This has been long overdue. The Van Dosseler edition has become rare indeed, not to mention expensive. And Julia Brown has just released an edition which is good but pales when compared to the transcendent technique here demonstrated by Flamme. This is the only CD which allows us a precious insight into what it might actually have been like to hear Bach play his magnificent improvisations; and Flamme soars, quite in his element, whilst displaying his astonishing technique. There are few organists indeed who can pull off this kind of virtuosity whilst maintaining a degree of piety and indeed veteran focus. Trained by Weinberger, who has delivered the most accomplished rendition of JS Bach's ouvre for the organ, Flamme is an exceptional player and maybe the only one who can do true justice to the legends which attest to Bach's own playing. This is the only CD which contains performances of the fantasias, which are simply unparalelled masterpieces which defy belief. The organ itself sounds beautiful: a deeply rich and vibrant tone that lends itself to the power and piety we expect from (any) Bach.

The music critic Schubart writes: 'undoubtedly the greatest organist in the world! He possesses a very fiery genius, a creative imagination, a stormy quickness and a magical power to enchant every heart with his play on the organ... His fist is enormous and won't tire even after a day of continuous playing... heart-rendering pathos, celestial grace. A pity that his compositions for organ are rarer and more precious than gold!'

With such linear notes, and a wonderful expansion on Bach's history and significance (fascinating insight into the times as well as Bach's reaction to them, which often make sad reading as his fate was somewhat cruel) on the organ by the authoritative Peter Wollny, we are treated sonically and literally to a treasure which is rare indeed. Witness this spectacle for yourselves and hear the famous Bach produce wonder after wonder.

One of the most compelling organ recitals I have ever heard, this is pure gold. Miss it at your peril!
