Not my favourite of the Coen Brothers' movies but entertaining enough. The title is a bit misleading if you expect gritty hard hitting drama. Clearly it refers to Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) or the teenage girl character (though as you will find out, Cogburn has some ungritty chinks). It's more of a reboot of a western with some reality and humour thrown in.

Saw this before but hadn't a good recollection. thought I preferred the JW original BUT I'm now a convert and can enjoy both versions which although similar are not the same storyline. I have read somewhere that this version is closer to the book but as I haven't read the book I can't be definite on this. I will watch this again.

Really enjoyed True Grit. I've been meaning to watch it for years and finally got round to it. Well worth it. It is beautifully filmed, well acted and seeks to explore what actually is real courage. At times is is a little gruesome, but only as tough as the world it depicts, although I should add it IS a western, so not to be taken TOO seriously.

A solid tripped down bare knuckle Western with excellent acting, set design, casting. Some pacing issues and at times hard to follow some of the dialogue.

True Grit is a great film, much more similar to the John Wayne version than I expected (no bad thing, since I also love the JW version - just a bit of a surprise). Once again Jeff Bridges gives a peerless performance. No Country for Old Men is darker than many Coen brothers films, but no less good for that. All-in-all an excellent couple of films and amazing value for money.

Two excellent films. No Country is a classic and the way True Grit has been re-worked makes a nice change from the original. A worthy addition to the library.

No Country for Old Men which is a brilliant film. True Grit not bad, and Shutter Island is psychological movies, for future controlled generations.
