I imagine that this may be bought by grandparents like me, all over the land, who don't want to buy again a big hard wooden cot such as they used for their own children. It's tricky to find storage for those bulky old pieces of furniture, plus they too were tryingly awkward to erect, particularly the ones with sliding sides. So this looks like it fits the bill. And so it does, as long as you approach it in a cool calm fashion; a tall order I know as we all may imagine we can ignore the 'destructions' and work it out for ourselves...

Although you might need it in a hurry, there really is no alternative to making the cot in the very way they lay out in the pictures. It just won't work if you go off piste - the whole thing becomes an increasingly frustrating exercise. I know because that's what I did. So take as read you have to diligently do as you are told and it will work in a flip. You get the knack of squeezing the joints to collapse or build the cot, they are under the rail padding and you have to feel for them. (This is beginning to sound a bit weird!)

The Hauck Dream'n'Play cot is really, really good. It will usefully double up as a playpen too which is a big plus. The cot feels substantial and looks attractive. No one hurts themselves bashing into it, as it is padded and made of a waterproof type material that will be very easy to keep smart. You have to buy a mattress as well - I chose a cossato Cosatto Springi 120 Cot Mattress - they offer a range of choices. The bottom of the travel cot folds out to make a firm strong base to fit inside the frame which then looks safe to take any amount of jumping, cage rattling and bouncing. It attaches to the cot by velcro underneath. The mattress fits inside the frame, on the base, like a glove, just room to tuck in the fitted sheet. Such as 2 X WHITE FITTED COT SHEET 130 X 70 CM 100% COTTON. The base is lightly padded, stiff board covered in waterproof material, well made into a folding shape that will also act as a shell for the cot when in storage. The main cot frame folds up like an umbrella to fit neatly inside this box shape. You then put the whole thing back into it's duffle bag and stow it on a shelf or under a bed. The packed up cot is, in old fashioned measurements, about eight inches high, nine inches wide and thirty inches in length. Not bad compared to a wooden cot which even if lying flat takes up a lot more area.

I highly recommend it with the proviso that you get to know it quietly when it arrives - long before the moment you need to lay a sleepy child into it. Our first customer, an eight month old baby, was happily snoozing in no time, looking well protected and comfortable. The old dog sleeping beside her, keeping guard. Ideal.

Worth 5 stars really, but like all travel cots, the mattress is not protective enough for babies, so you need to pad it with something or buy a pricey mattress, the latter defeating the point of being easily transportable, but this is a super travel cot indeed, with a base mattress that is stronger and softer than most others I've seen. Setting up and refolding it are dead easy too if you follow the simple pictures printed on the underside of the folding mattress. For all those people out there who write reviews about how difficult this is, please note that it is simply a matter of following the correct chronological order of the three steps, then reversing the order for folding it.
To assemble: sides up, ends up, middle down.
To fold away: Middle up, ends down, sides down.
Job done in seconds, without any problem.
If you change the order, or try to do all at once, you will waste your time.
Also, the folded cot nests neatly into the mattress base (which is folded into a cuboid tube inside the carry bag.
One last point, I have read contradicting reviews about mattress dimensions. I can confirm now that the open mattress is 120cm x 60cm. I can also confirm that a mattress a couple of cm longer/wider/shorter/narrower will also fit quite happily - so if you can't find the exact match, then a few cm won't be an issue.
Great product ... now to test it on a journey!

Had this cot for a few days used overnight once. Second night that i used it the side mechanism broke with the pressure of the middle piece going down so now only 3 sides are up. See picture. It's shocking and it's not exactly the cheapest on here.

Have applied for a replacement or refund.

The travel cot exceeded our expectations. Our grandson slept well in it, with the addition of a thicker mattress. The cot folds easily and stores in a suitcase under a bed in our spare room. This was an important feature for us as we have very little room in our house for storage.

Bought this for my four month old grandson. Cot is beautiful and solid. Fairly easy to set up then to put back in carry bag. Great price and the colour is great. Read the reviews prior to buying this and although there is a mattress supplied, its not that thick, so I bought an additional one to fit. Would definitely recommend this cot.

As grandparents we found this product and the directions for use quite difficult. The cot itself is excellent value but be prepared to spend a little time trying to work out a) how to put it up, and b)how to collapse it after use. Don't leave it until the baby is ready to use it, you will all be worn out before bedtime.

I got this because I wanted a travel cot for the little one. This one is very comfy, nice materials, vivid colors and really small to carry. It folds into a small bag, its amazing! And unfold it is very big, others I've seen were small, feel like prison. This one is very large, the baby loves sleeping in. I had to buy a mattress though, because its own is hard, it is the base actually, not suitable for sleeping.

Absolutely awesome, great quality & very easy to use. Make sure that you follow the instructions 100%. I did not read the instructions and fixed the base first, then tried fixing the top frame. It just did not work even after trying for an hour. Then I saw a youtube video and realised that you have to fix the top frame first by pulling it up with a jerk, its really that simple

Bought this to use when looking after my granddaughter. It was on offer when I bought it so was very pleased with the price. Lovely sturdy travel cot and very easy to put up, taking it back down was a little harder till I figured out how to do it. The mattress is quite hard and I bought another more comfortable one for it.

Another product with a crap manual. Do these manufacturers ever read them and try to see if they work?
Its impossible to lock the sides and open the cot if you push the middle down. You must leave the middle up.
Why don't the manual tell you this - took 2 hours to suss. Its a good quality cot and would recommend it.
