Wonderful to be re-acquainted after all these decades with these two classic late 50s extended jam-style mainstream-to-bop sessions under Kenny Burrell's name. Burrell was always nothing if not consistent - his name on an album always a guarantee of swinging and intellectually rewarding jazz music. Very inexpensive product, nicely packaged, and totally fulfilling listening. Five stars and no doubt.

This brand new addition to the Not Now catalogue presents 2 early and well received albums. Total running time approx 100 minutes. The recordings date from 1957 and 1956 (All Day Long/All Night Long) and are amongst his formative recordings and were originally released on the Prestige Records label. Kenny Burrell was born July 31, 1931 and is till active today. His guitar playing was grounded in bebop and blues; he has performed and recorded with a wide range of jazz musicians. A consummate sideman, Burrell recorded with a wide range of prominent musicians. He also led his own groups since 1951 and recorded many well received albums. His influences as a guitar player include Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt, and Wes Montgomery. While a student at Wayne State University, he made his debut recording as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's sextet in 1951. He toured with Oscar Peterson after graduating in 1955 and then moved to New York City in 1956. The sound quality is excellent throughout and the liner notes are by Peter Gamble. Yet again Not Now have put together for the collector classic material at a great value price.

I do NOT own this release, but have reviewed a prior release elsewhere. If these (extended with extra tracks) are of equal sound quality they represent excellent value for money.
