So the great, peculiar and outrageously gifted Kinks Kreator is prone to celebrate his tried and tested canon these days - no matter. Colorama, i.e. singer & multi-instrumentalist Carwyn Ellis, Ruper Brown (dr) and singing percussionist Luca Guernieri recently gathered a few friends on the Isle of Wight to produce an ever so charming collection that could have come straight from Muswell Hill with its tales of "Royal Victoria Arcade", "Candy Street" and "Lark Lane" - effortlessly melodic and surprising too, as some imaginative psychedelia got thrown in. The title track and "Pan Ddaw'r Nos (When The Night Falls)" - yes, folks, Ellis is a Welshman, just like the brilliant, underrated Andy Fairweather-Low - would make two wonderful A-sides in an era when singles counted!
