Marc Bolan has been my Main Man for 40 years and I have all his "stuff" many times over. This collection is what amounts to what was left on the "cutting room floor". Interesting as it is to the hard core Bolanites much of it will be lost on the more general listener.

There are a few songs which perhaps should've been further developed and formally released at the time with Mr. Motion and Down Home Lady being personal favourites.

This is a very interesting collection but is not a good entry level to Marc Bolan / T.Rex.

I absolutely love T.Rex!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps!!

So says the very marvelous Mark Paytress, author of the seminal Bolan biography and the liner notes to this mammoth 8 disc collection.
Paytress should be given a knighthood for his work on behalf of the Bolan cause. His intelligent, insightful and objective writings on Bolan have done much to give credence to this largely undervalued and maligned artist. Paytress knows his Bolan and his work on the man is truly enticing. It is, in fact, one of the main reasons that I bought this collection.

The music on these discs consists, for the most part, of rough and unfinished demos. Quality varies throughout the discs but it's generally good. However, if you're expecting hi-fi Sonics then prepare to be disappointed. But oh the actual music!! What beauty there is to be found within! Seriously, if you're serious about Bolan then you need this box set in your life. Discs 1 and 2 are truly essential loads of bluesy guitar work outs and Dylan/Kerouac wordplay. Later discs are less consistent but there's still enough goodness within to warrant a lengthy playlist for the iPod.

I love this collection because much of the music is new to me (having previously only owned `the best' of unchained) and I have always favored the minimal sounds of Bolan's delicious warblings and acoustic guitar.

At the time of this review this box set is shockingly cheap. Surely no further incentive is required to promote investment in this trove of Bolan delights!

One of my absolute favourite albums, lots of outtakes, one for the die hards or those just recently finding the magic of Marc and wanting more

I bought this in 2012 as an mp3 download for £13.99. I listen to it a couple of times a year and love every minute of it. Some of the tracks may not be of the highest recording quality but who cares.

Great to hear material that has never been released before. Some of it is demo some outtakes and alternative versions. This CD package is well worth the money to any Marc Bolan fan. The recording quality can vary but it's 8 CD's of pure joy.Unchained: Unreleased Recordings 1972 - 1977
