Not bad, not great, dark photos grainy
12 October 2011
I bought this inexpensive shooter for its features, price and looks. I should have focused more on the quality of the pictures it takes. Under well-lit conditions it takes pretty good photos. Beware, however, that under certain "modes" it alters (ahem, "enhances") the natural colors quite a bit. But under low-lit conditions it takes very dark and grainy photos. Not good at all.
The housing is made of some metal material with a black coating. That coating doesn't take too much to strip off. If you're someone who keeps your camera out of its case in your bag or pocket which might contain other things like coins or pens, then you'll likely find scratches through the black coating to the metal. The LCD is very low quality. The viewing angles are some of the worst I've seen. You have to look straight on to see anything. The video quality is ok but the audio isn't. There's a constant background hiss. This could just be my camera but I wouldn't count on it.
One nice feature is the 4x, rather than 3x, optical. The time from power-on to shoot is average. In summary, there's likely better camera for the money (or slightly more).
