This film was well packaged and delivered promptly, before Christmas. I watched it a few days ago and was amazed by the power and the quality of this old film. Fritz Lang is a master of film par excellence and I was fascinated by the architecture, the set designs, the direction, costumes and plotline. It was an absolutely overwhelming experience. It's interesting too historically; I feel I can always see why the Nazis liked his style. I watched Die Niberlungen earlier in the Christmas period. Not only are the central figures male, blond and heroic but the background mytholgy in the films is always huge and overwhelming. That was typical of what the Nazis tried to do with their propaganda and presentation. The film in my view was very very good and most interesting.

Amazing design work. Iconic imagery. Beautiful and sinister "machine man" Is this really from 1927? Makes me realise how movies have not lived up to their potential.

Acting performances certainly not subtle and subtitles not very frequent and occasionally the newly-recorded original music score spoils the atmosphere. Plot is simple and heavily allegorical with ridiculous romantic elements. Brigitte Helm steals the show as the nun-like good Maria and the glitchy and unhinged bad Maria .She is also the female "man machine" .

Also comes with an interesting documentary and a decent 50 page booklet. Got into this and Fritz Lang after reading Alan Moore's Nemo: Roses of Berlin:.

Great very 1980's take on an absolute classic movie. Beautifully tinted and quite dramatic with the Moroder music (although this does date it more than the film itself).
It reminds me of the rather shoddy cheapo sell through video released in the 1980's but with a fabulous restoration and a 'documentary' about Giorgio's passion to bring Fritz Lang's film to a new audience. The steelbook is also a thing of beauty!
If you want the recently discovered longest version, then look elsewhere on 'Masters of Cinema' but here is the form in which the majority of us were first introduced to this masterpiece and watching it is like looking at a favourite old book.

One of the most influential films of all time has been put back together using footage found in Argentina. The new bits are in a poor state but fill in so many gaps and give the story its missing narrative.

What a wonderful film great Stuff!
This is considered the granddaddy of sci fi films. Well made and great fun. The commentary was informative and enlightening., Fritz Lang made a masterpiece and deserves all the praise that come to the movie. This is a silent film buffs must have. If you watch any silent films make sure this is one of them.

I had this version on video years ago, and have spent a very long time trying to find it on DVD.

I think it's the only silent film I've watched from start to finish. About seven times....

The film is very atmospheric, and to someone who did most of my record-buying in the eighties the sound-track goes really well with the film.

And I've got to say that Maria is way more sexy when she's being bad......

Really excellent film. Lots of imagery and allegories to rightly identify this film as classic - even if it did bankrupt the studio.
Particularly intriguing as to how the recovered missing sections (albeit of very poor quality) have been spliced into the rest of the film. I found the commentary version especially interesting and how both the leading man and leading lady were selected. It is regrettable that the leading man was such a poor actor - the leading lady was superb merely highlighted his limitations.

It is no wonder this film caused a stir back when it was initially released. It was well ahead of it's time in theme, special effects and sets. It is well acted with an interesting tale based around a well conceived idea on how society would develop. It is a shame that there are missing pieces of the film and having to rely on written descriptions to replace the missing sections of the film. However it hangs together very well it is a film that should not be forgotten. Given when it bwas made this is a masterpiece.

Hmm, not a massive fan of silent movies, or, for that matter movies made before i was born. But this is without doubt one of the exceptions. First up we have a updated and quite fantastic new ( well it was when it was redone in 1984 ) soundtrack which adds a whole new dimension to this classic film and totally holds your attention throughout. Secondly an admirable effort has been made to the film that in the past had quite a lot missing but now thanks to the good will and effort of certain people, parts of which have been found and added back to give the story more Flow than was there before.
Very enjoyable and a superb Steelbook to boot. Great value for old movie lovers or those into 80s music. Good for party background too.
Now if they will do the same for Nosferatu and The cabinet of Dr. Caligari - - - OH YEA !!!
