Matt Smith is very good as the Doctor (for me certainly better than David Tennant who I found too human) his acting conveys a sense of age old wisdom, heartbreak and loss which belies his younger face. The companions Amy and Rory add an interesting dynamic, though one thing that irks me about the reboot series as a whole is the insistence of the writers to have the female companions (Rose and Amy especially) have romantic feelings for the Doctor.
The writing is solid in parts and awful in others, episode 12 is just ridiculous considering most of the races there would never work together, especially the Daleks, who regard anything that isn't Dalek as inferior and would therefore exterminate all the others assembled.
All in all, the Eleventh Doctor episodes are generally quite good, it'll be interesting to see what happens over the next decade or so (as that's when I predict Doctor Who will finish once and for all). The Doctor only has 2 regenerations left after becoming the Eleventh Doctor (considering it is established lore that Time Lords only have 12 regenerative cycles to prevent degradation of the biogenic molecules) and so I imagine once the Twelfth Doctor's time is up we will see various stories dealing with The Valeyard which should be very interesting (if the show is written properly)
