Makes busy days so much easier

This is a great slow cooker; large enough to feed a family (of 3 to 5), but small enough to be conveniently used by a couple. It has an inner ceramic pot big enough to fit a lot of ingredients (for instance, I can put in a pound of beef, several potatoes, a yam, a turnip, a head of broccoli, several parsnips and carrots, and still have room for stew broth). The pot is thick, glazed, sturdy, and has handles (though beware! they get quite hot when cooking); it slips into an outer black metal jacket for cooking. The jacket is also sturdy, with a separate set of plastic handles that don't heat up when cooking. On top, the slow cooker has a glass lid that can easily be seen through to check on your food. One thing I would have liked to see in the lid is a vent for air to emerge while cooking; as it is, when I leave for the day I just hope that it can emerge from around the glass lid, which doesn't seal.
There are three cooking settings - high, low and auto. The "high" setting will cook your food fast (in about 4 hours), or can be used for tough foods like dried beans. The "low" setting is best when you want to simmer your food for a long time (8 or more hours). Personally, my favourite is the "auto" setting, which cooks the food on high heat for an hour, then automatically switches to low heat to simmer for the rest of the day. I use that setting when I start the cooker before heading to work, and by the time I return about 9 hours later, the food is cooked to perfection. Highly recommended!
