This really is an exceptionally good collection of the finest romantic classical piano pieces ever composed. All the tracks have a beautiful haunting quality to them. If you have a favourite piano piece missing from your existing collection e.g. Shostakovich's 'Piano Concerto No. 2' then it's likely to be on this album along with many lesser known sublime pieces. Sheer beauty from beginning to end. Very highly recommended.

The piano is a popular instrument and the principal instrument for most people who play other instruments my humble self included. Whether you consider the piano a string instrument or a percussion instrument, it has a uniqueness which makes these 2 CD box set compilation of romantic piano adagios widely appealing. Adagio is the slow movement in a piece of music.

In 26 tracks of pure romantic perfection, we experience a wide variety of the popular classics from famous composers like Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky to lesser known composers like Macdowell and Addinsell.

The choice of selection in this compilation covers a wide spectrum of the different eras of classical music, ranging from the Baroque era with Bach's Goldberg variation and Keyboard concerto no 3 to the Classical era with Mozart`s Piano concerto No 3 and No 13 to the classical /romantic transition with Beethoven's Moonlight sonata and Pathetique sonata then the romantic era with Tchaikovsky's Piano concerto, Schumann's Traumerei, Schubert's Piano sonata in A and impromptu in G flat , Saint Saens`s aquarium, Grieg's piano concerto, Chopin's Nocturne in E flat and Piano concerto no 2, Rubinstein's Melody in F, Liszt's Consolation No 3, Faure Nocturne No 1 then to the romantic/20th century transition with Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 2, Debussy's Clair de Lune, Ravel`s Piano Concerto in G, Satie's Gnossienne no1, MacDowell`s To a wild Rose and finally to the 20th century with Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No 2 and Addinsell's Warsaw concerto.

I believe it was named Romantic piano adagios to reflect the great number of romantic era /period works on the compilation.
If you are a beginner it will serve as a great introduction to piano works, if you are a connoisseur it makes for a great addition to your collection. If you love piano works then here is one not to be missed. You can't go wrong with this CD.

PS. Please note that the compilation listed here for listening by amazon is not what is on this cd, I hope they can pick up on the error and rectify it.Amazon.com has the right list as stated in my review.

What a compilation !..I do not usually buy compilations as I prefer full symphonies, concerts and the like but I bought this for what I hoped would be a relaxing series of pieces. I was not disappointed. This set is a perfect soothing and fully relaxing number of well-known adagios played by some of the World`s finest Pianists.. I am sorely tempted to buy the other sets of adagios on sale.

I'm not really into 'heavy' classical music but this is just perfect in the background with many familiar melodies. I am really enjoying it.
