Having been a massive fan of GTA5 and its 'open-world' driving experience, I was looking for a car racing game that still involved some police pursuit action, and this game didn't disappoint. Despite being 4 years old, the graphics still look sharp, the 'takedown' replay is stunning, and the cars look and handle well, needing some skill in cornering and drifting to keep you on your toes.

There are lots of cars to unlock and drive, all of which look and sound great. You can drive as a racer or a cop, and both make for fun, engaging gameplay. For someone like me, more focused on action than actual serious racing, this game was a great buy.

My only 2 minor criticisms would be:

1. You can't go 'off-track', except for occasional designated shortcuts. I guess I've been spoilt by GTA's 'go anywhere, do anything' abilities, and in fairness this is a racing game, not an excuse for mayhem. The track barriers keep you from spilling off-road, which also makes for less fun, but at the same time it keeps gameplay flowing.

2. Tracks are limited. You experience many of the same tracks each time, the difference being made up for in driving different cars, in different light and weather conditions.

Bought second-hand through one of Amazon's reliable sellers, this game has proved great value for money and a thrill ride for someone like me who's more interested in action and rampage than serious racing. Don't let the age of this game put you off. Graphic quality and driving experience make this a definite player.

What a speed-full game!

I want to lay the focus on the atmosphere within this game.
It is brilliant! The background music and the lovely landscape is the point I loved in comparison to other NFS.
(Next to the racing aspect... ;) )
But all other reviews mentioned it, therefore I skip this part.

I played a lot of hours within this world and trough forrest, cities and highways.
It was a lot of fun. Can recommend it!

Good game with good graphics. Default resolution is 720p , so you see backside gamebox 1080i and if You want run game with this resolution , go in playstation 3 / settings / display settings / HDMI / custom / remove mark from boxes 720p and 1080i / then OK / finish / . After that game run with 1080p resolution and picture quality is more better. Same way You need do , if You run game MOST WANTED , gamebox backside is 1080p , but default run 720p. And if You want run games 720p , set back these marks 720p and 1080i in Playstation 3 display setup. Same way need do apparently with another games too, when is in box higher resolution , but in TV screen You see lower. Yes good question is why so ? I think these games is with soo good graphics in 1080p resolution and FPS [ rendering of picture ] , simply how good these games run is with 720p. Therefore these games is soo fast games - only wery fast driving and this need more powerful hardware . Playstation 3 is in finishline i think for last games. Time for Playstation 4.

(This review was written by my eleven year old son): This game is one of the many great racing games, but it is diffrent in a way I own several Need for Speed games and I love this one for lots of reasons: the game has great cars in it and the graphics are spectacular and the crash scenes and just amazing.

The game build is good too, but could do better, but still great. You can also do freedrive which is great fun (though can't get the cops to chase you in freedrive).

This game is the best NFS game ever realeased, I got 'The Run' in 2011 and 'Most Wanted' for christmas last year. 'Most Wanted' is the closest to this game but is still a way off. 'Hot Pursuit' is enjoyable, challenging (but not too hard), and appeals to almost every racing game fan. The game modes are very good and the freedrive is great. As reviews before this said, the drifting around hairpins is controllable but not unrealistic. The only problem is the fact that, in freedrive, you can't get the cops to start chasing you in a one off pursuit. This was one of the best elements in 'Carbon' on PS2. This is the only reason I haven't given this game a five star rating for fun. I would highly recommend to a friend.
