You have to mount these to a pattress box
on 16 November 2013
I have cables coming through a hole in a wooden meter cupboard that I needed to cover. I had hoped to simply screw one of these plates over the hole and bingo! no more drafts coming through hole. However, the gubbings behind/inside the faceplate is about 1mm thicker than the faceplate. This means faceplate would not screw down flush over the hole and there'd be a gap all round.
To make a proper flush seal over your hole you'll either need to:
a) Ensure your hole is a very precise rectangle measuring 7.5cm x 6cm
b) Cover your hole with a back box or pattress box and screw the faceplate to that.
I did option (b) which is neat and works, I'm just a tad peeved that the whole thing protrudes about 3cm. A bit more thought to the design of these faceplates would have meant they could have been capable of screwing down flush to any flat surface.
