Good, but issues with WiFi
on 2 June 2011
Bought the game for my daughter, who has enjoyed playing it - although she finished it in just a little over a fortnight! Overall the game does exactly what it says on the tin. The Professor Leyton brand provides for enjoyable puzzles, which are not always simple to solve, but which can eventually be solved by anyone using the hints setup.
The one main criticism I have is the WiFi support. The fact that the DSi has built in WiFi support is kindof ignored as the game requires its own WiFi setup - and this leads to problems. Despite this being a fairly modern title (2010), it requires a WEP encrypted WiFi. These days most WiFi routers will use WPA out of the box, and the game will reject this as unsuitable. Even a manual configuration will fail. It really is WEP only! Nintendo Tech support are very casual about it and blame this on the need to be "backward compatible" but I reject this notion. It is simply out of date, lazy programming and nothing else.
If you have a modern router - even if it is listed as "compatible" (and also probably even if its not listed!) it is quite likely you will need to reconfigure it to WEP encryption every week in order to connect and download that weeks puzzles from the net. If you know a little about router settings this should be a fairly straightforward, if annoying task, but for those who take their pc's to the shops every time it catches a cold you are likely to be left out in the cold on this game when it comes to the internet extras.
