This is a fantastic account of the History of Scotland by Neil Oliver, it covers ancient times, then through the Roman Empire, the Viking Invasion and the many battles between the Scots and the English, Scotland could be independent but most English Kings wanted Overlordship of Scotland all the time.
Oliver has a way of drawing you in to each chapter and makes the book unputdownable, we see the near genocide committed by all the protagonists, and the bloodletting committed by the likes of Edward the hammer of the Scots, but also by our very own William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. In fact if any party comes out of this bloody history with any semblance of civilised behaviour, albeit it small, between the lot of them it would be the Romans.
