" Was this series really as good as I remembered all those years ago
on 21 November 2016
I thought," Was this series really as good as I remembered all those years ago?" The simple answer is "Yes, it is". I also read the trilogy again, after all these years, and the dramatisation sticks very closely to the book. The casting is superb and all the characters are brought to life, especially Peter McEnery and Janet Suzman. Peter McEnery shows his abilities as an actor throughout, but much of the last episode is almost a soliloquy, and he holds my attention throughout. All the actors should be congratulated on a wonderful ensemble piece. The style of dramatisation may not be to all tastes, because modern audiences may find it rather slow, but the actors are given space to portray their emotional journey. I enjoyed it so much, I watched it again after a lapse of two weeks and I still enjoyed it and saw things I had missed the first time.
