Bach: Motets BWV 225-229
Format: MP3 Download|Change

on 17 July 2012
This Bernius reading of J.S.Bach motets stands high among many others, including Gardiner's et ally.

Many points make this CD a must have:

1- Bernius takes the pace in a dancing-like way marking the beat on the down-hand, letting us fell each peace/movement as it's not a funeral peace.

2- He gives emphasis (forte or piano) where it needs, very diferent from many recordings that we feel the choir is 'afraid of something' or fading (check please among other recordings)

3- It adds, besides the choir, a smal string orquestra and wind accompainement (oboe, oboe d'amore, fagot and an organ)

It's a deligth to hear the track 'Lobet den Hern' of the motet 'Singet Den Hern ein Neus Lied' BWV 225 and either 'Komm, Jesu, Komm BWV 229.

I have not hear elsewhere 'Der Geist Hilft' BWV 226 and the much famous 'Jesu, Meine Freude' with such sharpness, conviction and beauty.

The only miss is the motet BWV 230 not included on the CD.

Very diferent from many others 'just-a-capella' readings, but much pleasing.

I invite you seriously to hear and evaluate this recording.

If its your kind of aproach (not just the choir) you won't be disapointed.

Nice listening!
