Ever since starting uni, I've always "needed" coffee. Espresso machines can be a bit annoying to use early in the mornings when you have just woken up, so I was interested in these pod machines.
Firstly, I purchased a tassimo machine. What annoyed me was the drinks quantity wasn't very much, and as it used the barcode system you couldn't really weaken it down by adding more water etc, so I found that I was using a lot of pods for the tassimo machine to get the quantity I wanted.
This machine is manual, by which I mean you tell it when to stop. I much prefer this method as you can really fill up your cup, weaken your coffee down etc. It even allows you to brew hot water without adding a pod to it so you can have a cup of tea!
I think by calling this a 'coffee machine' it is a lie. This produces lots of other drinks such as hot chocolate, and even cold ice tea!
So, why do I prefer this over my espresso machine?
1 - No annoying coffee grounds all over your kitchen
2 - Much quicker! It surprised me how quick it was to get to the right temperature. It takes around 10 seconds for me!
3 - Produces much more different drinks such as ice tea
4 - A lot quieter, no more banging about when making coffee
5 - No having to clean a steam wand early in the mornings after steaming your milk
And much more!
A downside to this in my opinion is the fact that the milk it uses is powdered milk which you can taste. But either way, I love the taste so it's not really a downside! Powdered milk lasts longer and doesn't have to go in your fridge.
It also tends to vibrate because of the pressure, but what I do is just stick a kitchen towel under the machine and this absorbs most of the vibration.
This comes with £10 credit to spend on the Dolce Gusto website, and also comes with a starter pack. I didn't realise this so the day it was due for delivery I popped out to a supermarket to buy some of these pods.
Don't think that the pods are expensive either. At my local co-op you can get 8 servings of Latte Machiato for just under £4.
£4 divided by 8 servings = £0.50 per latte machiato. A lot cheaper than at a cafe!
I highly recommend this. Even if you don't like coffee, give it a try. You can always just use it for a hot chocolate machine for example. Don't think that coffee is unhealthy either because a lot of research has said that coffee does have health benefits. But as with everything, stick to moderation.
Hope this review helps!
