VINE VOICEon 27 August 2010
A lot of people weren't too happy with the last Blind Guardian album, "A Twist In The Myth". Me? I enjoyed it, but it was a step away from the sound that had made their name. Well, if this taster for the new "At The Edge Of Time" is anything to go by, then their fans will be very happy indeed.

'A Voice In The Dark' is the sort of rampaging power metal that got people excited in the first place. A perfect combination of melody and metal, it will get a good few horns in the air come their live shows. Frankly, it rawks!

Over on the B-side, and it turns out that Blind Guardian are fans of eighties cheese rawk. Because, first up is a cover version of 'You're The Voice', as made famous by legendary Australian cheesemonger John Farnham. And later covered by those soft rocking ladies, Heart. Blind Guardian go all out on this tune, with rampant choruses and big guitars. As an eighties cheesemonger myself, I loved this.

They finish up with an acoustic version of 'War Of The Thrones', which appears on the new album in full on metal style. It's another gem and heralds good things for Blind Guardian. Hail!
