Too much talk of mother
on 7 December 2007
Girls! Girls! Girls! came at the end of Elvis' golden period, and contains only one gem, "Return To Sender". It's worth saying though that is one of Elvis' strongest early 60s hits, powerful, smooth and witty it's a true classic.
So that aside we have 12 more originals which vary in quality from the pretty "Because Of Love" and fun title track, the bizarre "Earth Boy" to dull stuff such as "I Don't Want To".
Of this enhanced collection, you have the usual wonderful FTD packaging (nice pictures, background etc) and some difficult to get hold of tracks, like the pleasant little dance track "Plantation Rock" and a revision of "Girls Girls Girls" (which is real fun).
The outtakes are not as varied as we'd come to expect. Dominated by tired versions of the very dull "Mama" (do they never stop!) it is clear there was a distinct lack of bonus material available, and with the exception of the version 're-mixed' for 70s consumption one is much the same as another.
