I just love this 2 disc album from Kathryn Tickell one of the best exponents of the traditional
Northumbrian Pipes. I first heard her play in Newcastle some years ago and was much taken
by her playing. She has over the years included traditional pieces with those that are more
contemporary in her repertoire a 'change' that I like.
My favourites on disc 1 are Rothbury Hills, Stories from the Debatable Lands, Brafferton
Village/Walsh's Hornpipe and Westoe. With Dunstanburgh, Tune for Matt Robson, Pipes
Lament and Corn Fiddler/ Coquet Sight conjuring many memories from the past on disc 2.
All in all an excellent album and one that brings the Northumbrian Pipes to the fore.

I first saw Kathryn Tickell at the Newcastle Playhouse in 1989! It made a real impression on me then and this has bought it all flooding back. The variety and virtuosity is incredible - haven't stopped listening to it.

Don't be put off by "it's pipes!" - highly recommended
