This book is an excellent biography of Iranian who have had an impact on the recent history of Iran. This book fills a huge gap for facts in a country where truth has been a rare commodity for over 100 years and history has been written by the victor of the time from their perspective. No doubt future editions of this book will update some more of the facts in this book. A must read for especially for Iranians who have little idea of important and influential people in their country.
This book is certainly a contribution to the Iranian studies of the 20th Century. However where it fails is in the author's choice of the "eminents". It is stated in the foreword that the current 150 persons were short listed from an initial list of 700. To me , however, it apears the names were taken at random from a hat. I question the author's choice. Many of those omitted made more of a contribution to Iran than those included. It applies to the fields of politics, arts, education, music etc. It is therefore, in my mind, an injustice to all those greart men and women who had a pivotal role in the making of our great nation (in the period under study) not to be mentioned where lesser persons were.
