Brightened up what turned out to be a miserable week for me. Although it's been quite a long time since I listened to the Jetset I was surprised how many songs I could still sing along to. You may think you are listening to disposable bubblegum pop but they have a knack of worming themselves inside you. Surprisingly melancholy at times, too! Love 'em to bits. 2 CDs with 50 tracks, saves me digging out the albums. Check out Paul Bevoirs solo stuff (if you can find it), classy!
This is Pure POP for Modern people! The Jetset are an essential listen for anyone who was a fan of the 70's and 80's Mod revival as well as anyone who loves GREAT POP music inspired by the 50's and 60's but very much of it's time in the 80's and timeless in that it is still great to listen to them today.
The Jetset influenced so many other bands that a few years ago, Twist Records released a tribute that paid homage to their lasting inspiration (called "Do You Wanna Be In The Show? - A Pop Tribute To The Jetset"). You can't go wrong with this 2 disc colection which gathers many of their gems in one place.
The Jetset arose out of the ashes of the Mod Revival scene of the late 70's to mid 80's and obviously based themselves more than a little on The Monkees and this is no bad thing...Listen to the songs especially disc 1 and you wonder why they did not make the crossover into the pop charts...
too much teenypopper singalong but some of the tracks are quiet cheerful. Great summer music to drive along in a convertible car. On the other hand ... after just a couple of songs I was done with it. It all sounds pretty much the same. Nevertheless for collector's of 60s soundalikes and music lovers that like The Rutles - go a head and get it, it only costs a few dollars.
