The Final Concert

It is impossible to listen to this cd without frequently reminding oneself that within 48 hours the most fabulous and unique voice in the history of popular music would be stilled forever.
Roy Orbison was one of the few performers who could reproduce in concert the sound he captured on record. The Big O required no electronic wizardry to enhance his vocal powers-and here in his last ever performance is a chance to hear him, relaxed, happy, once more acclaimed the world over, giving life to the superb songs that will be his eternal legacy. No Roy Orbison fan can be without it-and for someone who never had that spine-tingling experience of seeing and hearing him in concert then the added poignancy of this performance makes it a must for the collection.
It has taken 22 years for this to be made available on cd.Roy's last request was simply that he be remembered.Listen to him here and you will see why he always will be.

TOP 1000 REVIEWERon 8 April 2013
This album was created from a sound board recording and on the whole a pretty good job has been made of turning this into a quality release. It's unimaginable listening to Roy sing that he would be dead 2 days later.
There are couple of odd-balls on the release that have caused me to say 4 star and not 5 these are: 1) Working For The Man seems to have been cut-off early. I don't know if it was performed as a cut down version or it's the way the sound board recording has been edited. I will say it would seem unusual to perform a "throw away" performance as he always performed his songs with the greatest respect by keeping faithful to the orginal. 2) Where is "Running Scared". Tradditionaly more often than not this would be the last song performed after "Oh Pretty Woman". It was clearly perfomed here, but omitted. It may be to create a dramatic effective considering the context of the concert to the end the album with Roy's "thank you and goodnight" speach after performing "Oh Pretty Woman", before starting "Running Scared". If so it would be better to have included such a big song.

While Roy is in fine voice as usual the backing singers are way too loud in this mix and even drown Roy out at times. Do yourself a favour and just buy Roy's Black & White Night as it is a far superior recording and even with some of the best artists in the world backing him it is pure Roy.

Roy said he always tried to give his audience his best and to not trivialize or abbreviate any songs. This proves he did just that in his Final performance. "Crying" is magnificent and "Ooby Dooby" the first song he ever recorded, has a contemporary arrangement and is fresh and up beat. I attended this concert and the last song, "Running Scared" is not included here. Either add it or re name the CD "Roy Orbison Last Concert, Minus the LAST Song" Buy it - and listen to it while you wait for the "NEW"The Final Concert release - including a previously unreleased song"

This album is a treat. It is also proof - if proof is needed - that Roy still had his extraordinary talent before it was tragically taken away from him. The voice is brilliant, and the fact this is 'live' just proves that he was the real deal.

Some reviews have stated that Roy's voice sounds low in the mix - and it is slightly - but i don't think this recording was meant to have to seen the light of day, so expect a better than average bootleg sound. It'll drive the audiphiles crazy, but it's worth purchasing it alone for that very reason. It's raw, it's honest. It's Roy. And that should be enough.

There is only one way to say it....Fatastic..... It has all his good songs on and made more touching as it was his last concert before he departed this world.
