I've been on a bit of a prog odyssey lately, searching out prog I'd never heard before. I came across a band called the Flower Kings, bought a few cd's, and thoroughly enjoyed them. Then I read that this swedish band were formed out of session musicians that played on this album by Roine Stot where the title track, and album, are called The Flower King. So this started it all some 20 years ago and a fine album it is. You have to like prog and this is very melodic with some great guitar work. Hope you enjoy it.

The album which eventually launched a band. Or maybe launched a thousand bands, as the Flower Kings have been very influential in the world of symphonic progressive rock. This is simply a stunning album with such guitar mastery it dazzles throughout. And it's symphonic prog with a twist, with elements of Zappa-esque manic invention both in the compositions and the guitar playing. This is music with heart and humour. Listen and prepare to be amazed. It really is that good.

This album is uplifting and bouncy and the song called the flower king has an excellent singalong chorus that goes on about serving the flower king I am not sure but I think he might be a metaphor for god or something. the music seems very whimsical and Magical and kind of possibly what fairies would listen to. its extremely melodic and pleasant and complex in places.
Definatly a good intro to the band called the Flowerkings themselves as even though it is a debut it was the start of the flowerkings really. the lyrics are also light hearted and there is some really good instrument playing in it too.
