The double, as a short, comic novella is great place to start with Dostoevsky's rather daunting catalogue of work. Having only read this particular version I cannot be sure if perhaps it is part of the book but there were one or two parts at the end of chapters where it seemed there was something missing. e.g. one chapter ends with 'and he read the following letter-' The new chapter begins with no mention of the letter, as though it was somehow omitted from the book. This leads to a little confusion in places. There are also a few slight typos or mistranslations, however it does not damage the experience of the book.
I highly recommend the Double.
