TOP 500 REVIEWERon 11 February 2010
Havent had this out of the cd player since it arrived a couple of days ago, this is fantastic, look at the track listing quality all the way with no filler.Opening with the title track of the first album 'Bad Company' its obvious from the outset that Bad Co are on fire,Rodgers smiling from ear to ear,Ralphs strutting his stuff and Kirke solid as ever on drums, aided and abetted by Howard Leese/Lynn Sorensen on guitar/bass.Classic after classic flows forth 6 tracks from BAD COMPANY(1974),3 from STRAIGHTSHOOTER(1975) AND 5 from RUN WITH THE PACK(1976),the title track from BURNIN SKY(1977) and the two best tracks from '79's ROCK N ROLL FANTASY,this is classic seventies rock, the template for so many bands(Whitesnake/Foriegner?),brought right up to date, highlights are many the beautiful 'Seagull',the poignant dedication of 'Gone gone gone' to Boz burrell, the culmination of the show with the Cant Get Enough/Rock N Roll Fantasy/Ready For Love & Good Lovin Gone Bad,how many bands would kill for music of that quality?,i could go on an on,damn it every track is superb, this is possibly the album of the year, already!!

the cd contains 16 tracks with the dvd 17(Sweet 'Lil Sister being the extra track)
Sound quality is excellent, its smooth not edgy like they would have been in the 70's,(we need Live in Alberquerque'76 to be issued for that),but it only highlights the quality of the band and music contained.

The dvd is excellent, certainly they wont top Kiss/Maiden for special effects on that sparse stage but its the music that counts and it speaks volumes for 3 guys combined ages 150+ years that they hold the audience in the psalm of their hand.

Ultimately this is a no brainer a cd/dvd package at this price is a must have and it certainly whets the appetite for the forthcoming UK tour,Glasgow awaits Bad Co with open arms, keep rockin lads you are magnificent.

Great concert by the original Bad Company: Paul Rodgers+Mike Ralphs+Simon Kirke.
'Hard Rock Live' is the reunion concert from Bad Company that occurred on August 8, 2008 at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida and is the only DVD that feature the original members plus guest musicians, Howard Leese on guitar and Lynn Sorensen on bass. You will get a CD plus a great DVD (90 minutes) of this concert, a night to remember, don't miss it.

Paul Rodgers is among the three best rock vocalists ever, the other two are Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey. After a time away with the Queen album and big world tours,he's back with Bad Co. and he's on absolutely top form throughout, that voice as strong and clear as ever. The band including a wonderful return by Mick Ralphs who wasn't on the last Bad Co. revival is back and rockin' that guitar as brilliantly as ever he did.Simon Kirke ever the solid powerhouse drummer and a second guitarist and bass player from Paul's touring band make this whole package something just not to be missed.Sure I'm a huge fan of PR's music whether as a solo artist or with any other of the bands he's performed with, but take my word for it this Bad Co. set is going to take some beating. The great songs are here,a new life and development they have but lose nothing from the originals,I just think this band live is another league up all together. This was a one off gig, well things have moved on and a major tour is happening in 2010 with most of the UK dates pretty well sold out already. So here you get a full length CD of the gig and a stunning and superbly filmed DVD as well.LIKE ROCK then don't miss out,30 years to get them back together again, yes a little older but the energy is as strong as ever, and all the young bands should look at this as a benchmark of great performance. You know this could and should be best live set of the year.UNMISSABLE PERFORMANCE BY A TOTALLY LEGENDARY BAND STILL AT THE HEIGHT OF IT'S POWERS.Fabulous !

This DVD features Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke, as Bad Company performing a one night only sold out show at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood Florida on August 8th 2008.
This a different from the previous 'Merchants Of Cool' which did not feature Mick Ralphs, it is a surviving members dvd.
The stage is set very sparse with drums and a piano in place there as well as Howard Leese on second guitar and Lynn Sorensen on bass guitar, you know that the music is going to be the focus, no gimmicks here.
Low keyentrance on stage leads into the classic namesake song 'Bad Company', the crowd going crazy and singing along with every word.
All the albums have tracks featured on here except the last one 'Rough Diamond', would have been great to hear the criminally underrated song 'Electricland' played on here.
The song 'Gone, Gone, Gone' , Paul dedicates the song to the deceased ex member Boz Burrells wife in the crowd also it being Boz's own composition for the band.
There are some songs aired here that on recent Paul Rodgers tours havent been played before, so was terrific to hear, 'Live For The Music', Simple Man', 'Honey Child' and 'Good Lovin' Gone Bad'.
'Shooting Star' sees a backdrop of dearly departed musicians including the mighty Paul Kossoff on a slidescreen with the crowd cheering along to each new picture of an idol. The song itself is a memorial in itself and one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
The dvd contains 16 songs from the first 5 Bad Company albums, the accompanying cd has one less track akthough on the website there is a free recording download available of 'Rock N Roll Fantasy'.
The musicianship is of the highest quality and firmly recommend this purchase.

Bad Company/Honey Child/Burnin'Sky/Gone,Gone,Gone/Run With The Pack/Live For The Music/Seagull/Feel Like Makin Love/Movin On/Simple Man/Rock Steady/Shooting Star/Cant Get Enough/Rock N Roll Fantasy/Ready For Love/Good Lovin Gone Bad

Paul Rodgers: Vocals/Guitar/Piano
Mick Ralphs: Guitar
Simon Kirke: Drums

Howard Leese: Guitar/Vocals
Lynn Sorensen: Bass/Vocals

Brilliant images - sharp and clear. Brilliant sound quality very precise. Great to see Rogers and Kirke back with Mick Ralphs. The concert is just that a concert no fancy light extravaganzas just a great singer and musicians. My only concern is how long will the disc last before I wear it out!!! Also includes a CD of the concert great for finding its way into my ipod - so will keep me going on long drives for work!!

I was never convinced by Queen+Paul Rodgers. The guy's a great singer but Queen's back catalogue just doesn't really fit his style and, even on the album they recorded together, his voice didn't really soar like it used to.

This Bad Company re-union gig was apparently only set up as a legal act to ensure they retained rights to the name, so you could be forgiven for thinking it's one of those half-hearted contractual obligation live albums.

Far from it, this sounds as fresh as if the songs had only just been written. There is genuine enthusiasm and energy both among the band and with the audience. Best of all, Paul sounds like he did back in Free: like Otis Redding weaned on Jack Daniels . Occasionally on the Bad Co studio albums (Straight Shooter especially) his voice sounded a little more strained, probably due to the production placing the instruments louder in the mix but either way, he sure has his mojo back on this set. No wonder they decided to do a whole re-union tour afterward.

All the classic tracks are present and correct but it's nice to also hear songs like 'Seagull' and 'Honey Child' live. It's great value too for the DVD and CD in one package.

Having come late to the fold, my first Bad Company lp was Desolation Angels, which I thought was great, then Rough Diamonds which was ok. Then 10 from 6 on cd which was great. Next came Paul Rodgers version of Bad Company and Merchants of Cool, which stole back the crown from the other Bad Company that did some good business across the pond. Then this. Saw them on BBC iplayer from the Radio 2 concert broadcast last year. Stunning. Paul Rodgers voice has got better with age. None of these people are in the first flush of youth, but they can still put on a show. "I may not ever be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was" is certainly the case here. Whatever had gone down in the past is laid to rest and everyone seems to be having a great time. This is a greatest hits live, but what greatest hits. At least as good as the studio originals to these ears. And this is while Queen + 1 were still an item and about to put out "The Cosmos Rocks".
£16 in hmv - 'nuff said.

Been a Paul Rodgers fan for a long time now (hey, I've still got a front row Bad Co ticket from the 70's.....cost £1.50 !!), and have enjoyed his recent collaberations with Queen and his solo tour. Loved the Merchants of Cool DVD and CD and PR Live in Glasgow, but have to say this gig blows them out of the water. Great to see 3/4 of the original line up (RIP Boz)and the additions of Howard and Lynn from the PR tour band. These boys are on top of their game and rip through some classic Bad Company tunes. I have to say that the version of Seagull here, (not one of my favourite songs) is absolutely stunning and one of many highlights. Have recently seen the boys on their live tour and it was as good as this gig. What can I say. Buy this album (it's a bargain) and play it LOUD. Keep on rockin'.

I first saw Bad Company live in Southampton after they reformed from Free/Mott the Hoople/ King Crimson I think it was in 1976. This new release brings back so many memories. The opening song with Paul at the piano is exactly how he started the gig all those years ago. The added bonus of the DVD is fab, with my surround sound on full and my restrung air guitar its just an amazing. The words to all of the songs remain in the memory although I can't remember yesterday! All in all this is a must buy album for me from a nostalgic point of view or even if you are new to the Bad Co. sound, they remain an influential and fabulous band. Boz Burrell and even Paul Kossoff would be proud RIP

This album and DVD is worth every penny and more. A real treat for any Paul Rodgers/Bad Co. fans....in fact anyone who appreciates good music. Played with enthusiasm and sung by the impeccable Mr Rodgers, who is in extremely good form, this is a feast for the eyes and ears. It is great to see a band enjoying what they are doing and the audience loving it! There is a freshness about the performance which probably stems from the fact that it's a long time since they played together, but the quality of the musicianship is still there......and Oh that voice!!I would recommend it to anyone....and do! Buy it....or you are missing a great concert.
