#1 HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWERon 6 February 2013
This lovely recording of a solo concert by Trevor Pinnock is a delight, and emphasises what a true musical giant he is. Here, alone with his harpsichord in Wigmore Hall, he spans a century or so, playing two of Purcell's Suites, two of Handel's Suites and two of Haydn's Sonatas. It's a very well-chosen programme which hangs together very well and provides variety and great pleasure from start to finish.

Pinnock plays it all beautifully. He has been immersed in this repertoire for 40 years now and many of his recordings, both as instrumentalist and conductor, are regarded as landmarks. This isn't so much a landmark as a wonderful, often rather intimate-sounding personal expression of love and respect for these pieces and their composers. It is impeccably judged throughout and played with an effortless virtuosity which sounds as natural as breathing. The recording is excellent, capturing the lovely sound of the harpsichord perfectly. It is a live recording and the engineers have left in applause throughout, some of it quite prolonged. This may not appeal to some listeners, but I like it - it helps to generate and maintain the atmosphere of the concert and personally I don't find it intrusive.

This is a delight of a disc. The music is wonderful and it is played to perfection by a truly great musician. Very warmly recommended.
