Bring me Sunshine!
on 26 December 2011
You get quite a lot here for a compact set. In the box you get the base as pictured which is, by my measurements, about 21 cm by 16cm. There's a minimal amount of assembly; you have to fit together the little sail boat, add the drawbridge which separates the two sand coloured areas and assemble the parasol. There are three stickers to be added to the sun tent which has to be slotted into place, and the grip has to be installed to the surfboard and you are good to play with the two figures, a mother and child, who come assembled and bare footed ready for beach fun. There are plenty of accessories, a bucket and spade, two mini palm trees and teeny toys (an elephant and dinosaur randomly) as well as a sun cream tube and three sandcastles which can be "built" by putting them in their base time and time again. This does make for lots of quite small bits that wouldn't be suitable for a child prone to putting things in their mouth and with which a bit of care has to be taken as some of the pieces are millimetres big.
This set works well as a stand alone item as well as going well with other sets. Everything is very sturdy and in well made plastic. I find that my daughter loves to sit various people under the tent and make them play in the sea or with the castles. This set is popular as a destination for the occupants of her playmobil camping car and also as an add on to her playmobil park (did I mention we have a LOT of playmobil?), and also balances nicely on the side of the bath for playmobil people stopping off from a tour in their self propelled boat. Both the people fit on the surfboard firmly due to a clever swivel system on the board - though they don't particularly float very well and are best surfing in an imagined rather than real manner
The set really seems to encourage my child's imagination and she has literally played with it for hours on end - who doesn't like a trip to the seaside?! Despite lots of play I can't really find much to fault with the design or durability of the set, other than the fact that some pieces are tiny. It packs down compactly but has a lot of different elements to it for a small item in my opinion.
This really is a five star item in both my and my daughter's eyes and would be a great starter set or addition to a collection. There are other sets in the series should you wish to add on a sunlounger or holiday maker or even a beach buggy. Highly recommended - for the price it really is a good little toy and we love it!
