This is one of those rare albums that gripped me from the very first listen.
Almost entirely a solo effort, with the artist playing all instruments except drums, this album is reminiscent of all the high points of Joan's long and notable career, but at the same time, it has a sound all of its own. It's clear, crisp and uncluttered, and the compositions are strong enough to stand proud against her classics. In fact, this album really rocks! Her voice has lost none of its power and she still packs an extraordinary amount of emotion into each track. The electric guitar and bass riffs will probably cause a few jaws to drop, they are just sublime in places.
After three plays, the tracks that are sticking in my mind are People who Win, Heading Back to New York City and Best Dress On. As another reviewer said, I also can't wait to see her live. Joan is one of the greats of British music, and the album rates as a must have!
