Although this is listed as 145 minutes- a length which appears on the back of the DVD case- it is only 103 minutes, which with adverts probably ran for two hours on commercial television. The DVD has no extras at all.
At the end of series 2 of Rumpole he went off to America where his son and his wife had gone to live.
This longer special picks up the story in Florida where Rumpole meets with a religious group, just as back in England a murder is committed on the Underground, with an odd echo of Rumpole's meeting. Back in chambers the case seems to be hopeless and Phyllida writes to Rumpole, who is soon back in London.
There is a mixture of Chambers politics and a convoluted murder case to rival the Penge Bungalow Murders of old.
Rumpole is back in chambers and ready to start Series three...
I love Series One of Rumpole, and Series Two come to that. But this is just terrible. Made to get the director to the USA for a holiday, perhaps. Unless you are a compulsive collector of full sets, save yourself the time, money and effort. Watch Series Two again instead, or perhaps The History of Mr Polly.
