disappointing sound quality
on 20 January 2012
I bought this model specifically in order to listen to talk programmes (BBC World, R4 etc) during the night and early morning. I was attracted by the fact that it has a dimmer, as well as alarm and sleeper functions, which suggested to me that it's designed for the bedside.
After a few nights' usage, I'm disappointed on two counts: even with the dimmer button on 'off', the set emits a highly distracting glow for a light sleeper (and if you press the on switch, that too glows even more brightly). So no dozing in the dark while listening to this radio. I really would have expected a bedside radio to be designed with a little more attention to detail, with at least an option to cancel all light sources, especially when it's switched off.
Even more irritating is the lack of any tone control, because the default setting seems to be a sort of mega bass, which makes any low-register voice (especially male) reverberate and affects the clarity of speech.
Maybe it's just the thing for listening to some heavy metal though the night - but I'm not tempted to find out.
