Harsh Generation starts with the self-titled tracks full-on attack of distorted 4/4 kickdrums, distorted, shouted vocals and dark lead melody and from there on in barely lets the pace drop until the outro track.
This is a far cry from the futurepop formula that has risen to dominate the modern ebm scene. It shows more influence from contempories in the terror ebm and harsh ebm scenes, while never sounding anything like Combichrist or any other band. Grendel's style is unique while still within the parameters of a well known formula.
Several tracks use samples from cyberpunk anime (particularly Ghost In The Shell: Innocence) which compliments the lyrical content of the albums cyberpunk concept.
Ebm purists who prefer old school ebm still won't be happy with the hard dance direction this album takes and those who prefer the trancey sounds of futurepop may be put off by the hard dance feel of the album also. However this is a classic of its genre that could appeal to those who previously never found anything to like in harsh ebm. Essential for all industrial DJ's.
I have this CD as the main CD in my car. It's an excellent album with some great tracks. New Flesh, Dirty and Hate This are particular favourites. Probably one of my top albums for the dark electronica genre.
proper cyber terror ebm going on these discs. The first 5 songs on the first disc are the best wonderfullt flowing into eache other. The remix disc on the ltd edition is wuite good in places. Ive never heard a bad amduscia remix on any industrial/ebm/electro cd.
This is a good cd for getting people into Terror EBM or whatever you wanna call it.
