AH,BUT JEREMY,CAN YOU ACTUALLY GROW A BEARD...?
on 4 April 2010
Let me state that i'm not the biggest fan of Clarkson but i think he more often comes over better in print than in person. This is the third or fourth book of his that i've read and the formats pretty much the same as before, car reviews cloaked (quite cleverly)in his views and opinions on a million subjects. There is the mixture of laugh out loud observations, genuinely thought provoking passages, and some utter nonsense(although i suppose one mans utter nonsense is anothers thought provoking passage).I think he has a good even handed way of reviewing cars, for instance, lavishing praise(justifiably) on the Ford Mondeo,a car us mere mortals might possibly own one day and damning ridiculously priced exotic cars that don't even start properly and need servicing after 100 miles. So,in conclusion,Clarkson fans will lap it up and make him even richer than he is already but even if you are not a fan,i would recommend giving it a chance as it cannot be denied that Clarkson is an entertaining writer with deeper thoughts than one might realise.Just one last thought...Clarkson mentions in this book his dislike of beards and has done so before. This is something a women, not a bloke, would normally pass judgement on.So,is this beard envy Jeremy? The fact that i've just grown a full one has nothing to do with it...!
