errrrm, still can't make my mind up...
on 8 February 2011
I have just finished this free Kindle book and it's one of those where I still need a week or so to digest whether I liked it or not.
We have Two, a junkie, prostitute who lurches from one trick to the next. There is no hope for her other than an overdose of heroin to remove her from the clutches of abusive pimp Darren.
Along comes Theroen, a vampire priest of Norwegian extraction (yup, you couldn't make it up...ah well someone did), who whisks her away and declares his love. Mix in a Vampire god, demented vampire teens and you have a strange story with stranger characters, but very well written in its own way.
It doesn't rush along, and the sections where Theroen flashes back to his priestly days and discussions with gravestones is very dull. I also thought the expected build up to a climax (and given the sexual ambitions of the vampires, this is appropriate) didn't arrive. Seemed like the excitement finished about 2/3 of the way in and the final third was for setting up the next in the series.
Hmm, it was free. Was it worth every penny? Yes, but I still don't know if I enjoyed it or not.
