ANDRE RIEU - AT SCHONBRUNN, VIENNA

on 19 January 2010
Considered to be André's most beautiful and spectacular concert that took place in the courtyard in front of Vienna's Schönbrunn Palace on 7 and 8 July 2006. Many carriages and horses perform a 'musical ride' including one recreating the entrance of the Emperor Franz Joseph and his beloved Empress 'Sissi'. The famous Ellemayer debutantes perform in the golden palace ballroom and outside on the balcony and there is an accompanying company of ice skaters. The Vienna Opera Ballet that we know from the New Year concerts memorably perform The Emperor Waltz. A pair skating sequence will amaze and delight. The lavish costumes and staging are a special feature and will impress. Soloists are Suzan Erens, Carla Maffioletti, Carmen Monarcha, The Platin Tenors and special guests. The concert ends with a rousing Austrian style party sequence. The programme comprises:

Entry March - Einzugsmarsch
Trumpet voluntary
At The Hunt - Auf der Jagd
Fächerpolonaise
Roses from the South - Rosen aus dem Süden
Heia in the Mountains - Heia in den Bergen

This is by far and away Andre Rieu's best Concert DVD. Two and a Half hours of entertainment not to be missed, full of beautiful classics played by one of the best if not THE best orchestras in the world, Johann Strauss Orchestra. Outdoors in the Viennes Evening Sun at Schonbrunn, with music, dance, singing, Andre's personality shines through. There is even comedy and humour, you will want to dance, sing and laugh with it.
If you only buy one DVD this year make it this ONE.ANDRE RIEU - AT SCHONBRUNN - VIENNA

I bought this DVD for my father as he loves listening to Strauss Waltz's. We watched it last night as there was nothing on television (only the Eurovision Song Contest!) - need I say more.

What a wonderful evening it was, it started when the orchestra arrived in horse drawn carriages, & it just got better from there with Mr Rieu captivating the audience with music, dancers & singers also there was comedy with one member of the orchestra being hit with a foam hammer after he gets carried away with himself! & another two stripping off for the "Feast of Fire" as they need someone to play the Anvil! There are ice dancers including the German champions dancing to "My heart will go on" which was filmed earlier in the year, as you can see the ladies of the orchestra are wearing little jackets to keep themselves warm.

It is advisable that you put the English subtitles on otherwise it will spoil it for you as every spoken word is in German.

It was certainly money well spent for the pleasure it gave us.

I bought this DVD following seeing it at Christmas on Sky Arts. It is sheer magic in its content, performance and ability to transport you from feeling quite low in spirit to a feeling of well being. The critics of Andre Rieu say 'he is dumbing down the classics' but he has the ability to bring such great music to us all in a format that has the ability to lift the spirits. The content of the programme the lavish production and performers are a joy to behold and he has involved his audience in his concerts - something not previously experienced.
I find it two and a half hours of sheer brilliant entertainment, I cannot thankyou enough for getting it for me -
Cannot wait for the next
